Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) helps farmers in West Bengal replace diesel-powered irrigation pumps with solar-powered ones, slashing fuel costs and ensuring year-round irrigation. The scheme also allows farmers to install solar panels on barren or agricultural land and sell surplus electricity to the state grid, creating a second income source for West Bengal's farming community.

  • Individual farmers in West Bengal with agricultural land
  • Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Water User Associations
  • Farmers with existing diesel/electric irrigation pumps (for replacement)
  • Panchayats and cooperatives can apply under the distributed solar component
  • SC/ST farmers and women farmers given priority

📝 How to Apply — Step by Step

  1. Contact the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) at wbreda.org or your District Agriculture Officer
  2. Download the PM KUSUM application form or apply online at mnre.gov.in
  3. Submit application with land documents, Aadhaar, and bank details to WBREDA district office
  4. Inspection and site assessment done by WBREDA engineer within 30 days
  5. Upon approval, empanelled vendor installs the solar pump
  6. Farmer pays their 10-30% share; 60-70% subsidy credited directly to vendor
  7. System commissioned and farmer trained on operation and maintenance
