Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is a flagship scheme to bring a Blue Revolution in fisheries — doubling fishers' income and boosting fish production. West Bengal, with its vast coastal belt, Sundarbans mangrove fisheries, rivers, and inland aquaculture potential, is a major focus state. The scheme provides financial assistance for fish farming, modern fishing boats, cold chain infrastructure, and fisher welfare.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • Fishers, fish farmers, fish workers, and fishing cooperatives in West Bengal
  • Self-Help Groups (SHGs) engaged in fisheries
  • Entrepreneurs setting up fish processing units or cold storage
  • SC/ST, women, and differently-abled applicants get priority (extra 10-20% subsidy)
  • Both marine (Bay of Bengal) and inland (river, pond) fishers eligible

📝 How to Apply — Step by Step

  1. Visit pmmsy.dof.gov.in or the West Bengal Fisheries Department portal at fisheries.wb.gov.in
  2. Register as a beneficiary with Aadhaar and fisherman identity card
  3. Download and fill the application form for your specific activity (fish farming, boat, cold chain, etc.)
  4. Submit application to the District Fisheries Officer (DFO) in your district
  5. DFO verifies and forwards to State Fisheries Department for approval
  6. Upon approval, subsidy is released via DBT to your bank account
  7. For SHGs and cooperatives, apply through the District Lead Bank or NABARD
